2022 AFL practice matches RECAP

Image
This year's practice matches had upsets, blowouts and close games. This is a recap of what happened... Essendon vs Western Bulldogs I already did a post about this on Medium , because I couldn't contain my excitement that the Bombers had beaten last year's grand finalists! Essendon had a lot of shots on goal and just didn't capitalise. It was a really close match with lead changes throughout the game. Carlton vs St Kilda Many Carlton and St Kilda fans packed into Ikon park to watch these two teams battle and boy was it one to watch! Carlton were without big forward and last year's Coleman medallists, Harry McKay and co-captain, Sam Walsh. St Kilda put up a good fight and looked likely to win during parts of the game. I was watching the game live and saw McGovern come crashing down, which was scary when he didn't come back up after a while, but it looked like he was ok. Melbourne vs North Melbourne The Roos didn't have a lot going for them in this game, aft

The AFL will NEVER go global

The AFL will NEVER go global Here's why... The AFL was made by Australians, FOR Australians. I could end it here, but let me go a bit further into it. I would put money on it that you have heard of soccer. Even for the 3 people on earth that haven't, you can see the simple objective and rules just by watching 5 minutes of it. The players play on a large rectangular pitch with a round ball that they pass to each other using only their feet with the objective of getting it into the other teams net. Those are the basic rules and that's why almost every country in the world plays it. Because it's easy to understand and to play. Now if I would show a 5 minute clip of AFL then I'd reckon almost no one outside of Australia would have a single idea what's going on and would certainly never have heard of it before. And AFL players have grown up playing footy, they weren't just starting to play at 18. The game takes a long time to get the hang of, let alone to maste

The 2022 AFL practice matches are almost here! We're living in a day and age where almost everything is live streamed. Even the smallest events are being watched, just because now there is a way to watch them happen in real time. AFL practice matches are not new. They have been around for ages as a way to ease into the season and for teams to grasp where they're at and what they need to improve on. Each team plays 2 games at an unusual time, like a Thursday at 11 o'clock. The games are played in a mixture of the home teams training ground and large stadiums. These are the games that will be played: Wednesday 23 February Essendon v Western Bulldogs at the Hangar (3.00pm AEDT) Thursday 24 February Carlton v St Kilda at Ikon Park (10.00am AEDT) Melbourne v North Melbourne at Casey Fields (11.00am AEDT) Friday 25 February Brisbane Lions v Adelaide Crows at Metricon Stadium (10.00am AEST) Gold Coast Suns v Port Adelaide at Metricon Stadium (3.00pm AEDT) Collingwood v Hawthorn

AFL training injuries need to stop!

AFL training injuries need to stop! This week, Carlton young gun and co-vice captain, Sam Walsh injured his ankle during training and is set to undergo surgery. A key player in Carlton's lineup and part of their leadership group, out for a couple of weeks. Walsh isn't the first player to be sidelined because of an injury they sustained during training and he certainly won't be the last. Way to many players are getting injured during trainings, and I get that they have to get their body in shape for games, but when teams are losing so many players due to training injuries then I think something should happen. I'm not saying that games should be the place where footy players get injured. No one wants to be sidelined and especially have to under go surgery, but with the new concussion rule in place, players shouldn't be sling tackling their own teammates into equipment, like what was seen at Melbourne the other day. I mean now that player can't do
